These 550mm 500N gas struts are suitable for lids approximately 50–90kg when installed correctly. Actual lifting performance depends on hinge position, lid material and mounting geometry.
Recommended Mounting Position
- Install one strut on each side of the lid
- Mount approximately 20–30% down from the hinge on the lid panel
- Position the lower L bracket around 260–460mm below the top inside edge of the box frame (adjust to suit internal depth and clearance)
- Ensure the strut is slightly compressed when fully closed to maintain correct preload tension
⚠ Force guidance: If the lid is heavier than 90kg, a higher force rating may be required. If the lid is lighter than 50kg, the struts may feel overly strong.
